About the Artists

Sally and Howard Worth

Sally Worth

Born and raised in London, Sally graduated from Croydon College of Technology before being employed by Young and Rubicam, the third largest advertising agency in the world at that time, where she led a team of home economists engaged in product development, design and marketing. She was responsible for major accounts including Cadbury, Heinz and Unilever, working on some of their best-known campaigns. From there she moved to Germany for several years before migrating to Australia, where she commenced working at Curtin University (then WAIT).

Sally pursued a successful career at Curtin for more than 30 years as a manager at both School and Faculty level, honing her business and management skills and completing a Master of Business Administration degree.  She spent much of her time at Curtin in the schools of Art and Design and Communication and Cultural Studies, where she enjoyed an on-going engagement with the arts and the fellowship with artists, writers and performers.

On leaving Curtin, Sally commenced a professional consultancy business, but also took the opportunity to explore her own painting abilities. She has concentrated on watercolours, where she has developed her own “fluid” style. She has also turned the results of her work into a commercial venture, producing a variety of greeting cards which she has made available on-line and through several galleries.

Her work “Mist over Warren River” was selected for exhibition in the 2018 City of Busselton Art Award.

Howard Worth

Born and raised in Perth’s southern suburbs, Howard utilises a range of media in his painting including oils, acrylics and pastels as well as found materials.

Although always engaged in painting and sculpture at a personal level, (as a teenager, his “junk” sculptures created from materials salvaged from the local tip transformed his parents’ garden into something of an art park) his career as a film and television writer, producer, director and educator meant that his art had to remain a secondary activity until recently.

However, when he has had the opportunity to dedicate himself to his art, he has enjoyed marked success, having exhibited in Melbourne’s Wattletree Gallery in 1992, while his “Kimberley” series was displayed in Compass Airlines business class lounges in the same year. He has also exhibited in the Old Bakery gallery in Maylands, and his paintings are in private collections across Australia.

In addition, he has won various art awards, including Best Exhibit in the API Art Exhibition 1976 with “For Hire” and Best Oil and Acrylic Painting for “Over the Coast” in the East Kimberley Art Awards in 1995.

Once again able to devote himself to his painting and sculpture, Howard is exploring new and exciting directions in both, producing more new works than ever. In 2016, he undertook a commission of four paintings for holiday chalets in Denmark and his painting "Pilbara Track" was selected for inclusion in the Royal Agricultural Society's Art Exhibition. In 2017 He undertook two commissions - the Lucky Bay Tryptich, and Rottnest Channel Swim and his Hillside Cowaramup Bay was selected for exhibition in the 2018 City of Busselton Art Award.

As part of the Alchemy Creative collective, Howard and Sally are keen to establish an on-going presence in the Australian art community.
